Lights, Camera, Action

Well there would have been only the Council have taken their toys away with a cherry picker and removed the very nice cameras installed at the old council depot.  Which I suppose means somebody is about to take up residence.  For the amount of money spent it was a bit mean taking them away although I suppose it was hidden in the small print.  I wonder if the light bulbs have been taken out of the other buildings as well.

So, we might see some action shortly.  I can see us all scanning the planning applications to see what we are going to get.  A new business would be good for the village so let's hope that's the way forward.  Regrettably I suspect that housing will win the day.

Ah well just be aware, there are sewage problems in that particular area, in fact they have their own sewage pump down at the bottom on the other side of the canal.  In fact come to think of it there is a rather smelly ditch at the last bungalow before you go under the bridge and it isn't just  stagnant water.  If it smells now, what will it be like in summer?  There again it might just be me with a delicate nose!

Get Your Voting Finger Ready Again

Well it looks like we could have yet another chance to vote in May.  As well as the General Election it is muted that the  whole District Council  have elections again, either in May 2015 or May 2016, and thereafter every 4 years, effectively changing the electoral cycle so that there will be no bits and dribbles of one third at a time.

I'm all for saving money, which is what this is all about, but I bet some councillors who only got in by a whisker will be hoping the 2016 date gets selected if the changes do go ahead .  Whatever happens a decision will be made by the council on the 5th March on whether to make any changes or leave as it is at the current time.

Well nothing on the council depot yet, although I suppose they'll still be completing the paperwork and getting the bags of cash ready.  I still think it was a bad idea though, worse than selling the family silver but then bean counters were never very good when it came to common sense.

Looks like there are more mass solar panels coming.  Linehouse Farm, Linecroft Lane has put in planning permission on one of their fields.  Probably just visible from the main road.  More sense installing for your own use, assuming of course that this is the case.

No News Yet

Well nothing on the grapevine yet regarding the old council depot, having said that I have been off the grid for over a week so no chance of  access to any street gossip.  So in the absence of anything of interest I shall just have to have a  whinge.

There is a massive pothole in the playing field car park just as you go in the entrance, which is going to get even larger if nothing done to it.  A layer of filler has been laid over the whole car park but unfortunately it does not appear to have any real substance and I suspect will not last very long.  In particular that hole should have been filled with a more sturdy substance first.

The garden of lots of money seems to have some very dead bushes in that want replacing.  The pictures in the noticeboard frame looked very faded, have they been taken out now (never noticed when I was last in the vicinity).  Bad idea really considering that spot is in full sunlight for most of the day.

I notice that the parish precept is going up to £55,000 from £51,000 in the 2014/2015 financial year.  Does this mean we are running out of money in the parish pot?  Does it mean there is a big spend on the horizon?  I suppose we shall have to wait and see.  It would be nice to get a Financial Newsletter like we did in the past, with full details of what had been spent, where and what was in the future.  Now that would be of interest to many residents in this village instead of a smorgasbord of trivia that appears in the current Newsletters.

What is going off with the old VI money.  Isn't it about time somebody stirred the pot there and found out what they were all up to with this money.

A Tidy Profit

I see Janet Wilson's house is up for sale again.  A nice little makeover (pictures on the Internet), and a quick resale.  To be fair they have done a really good job and it looks totally different, just a pity  that after all the work they have decided to leave our village.  The bungalow was originally offered for sale for £125,000 and was ripe for refurbishment.  Now it is back on the market for just under £180,000. Centre of the village, bit of space, what more could you want?

Which begs the question, how much would it cost to refurbish the old VI.  Certainly not the inflated figure offered by so called experts.  Just a bit of vision and possibly turn it into a house.  Sticking point there would be room for manoeuvre around the property  but I am sure the parish council would assist with all that space they now have available.  Would be churlish to refuse, wouldn't it?

Oh and if you want to apply for the temporary work at the Misterton Centre, the spelling mistake on the website has been rectified.  Pity they didn't correct the other little inconsistencies on capitalisation at the same time.
